What a great song! It was released in 1936 as a duet between Bing Crosby and his then-wife Dixie Lee. Billie Holiday recorded this song in the same year as the film. The song also gave The Lettermen their first hit in 1961, hitting #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles.

In the 1942 film Once Upon a Honeymoon, Cary Grant says to Ginger Rogers he always wants to "remember you just the way you look tonight – er, today", a reference to Rogers' appearance in the film in which the song was first heard. :)

The song has become a jazz instrumental standard, inspiring numerous interpretations by a variety of jazz artists, including, of course, Ol' Blue Eyes himself.

Written by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, whose father wouldn't allow her to be a performer. So, she wrote lyrics...a woman with a mission. Read her lyrics slowly, they will melt your heart!

From intimate supper clubs to Radio City Music Hall and every type of venue across the US and Europe, Lisa Addeo's music touches audiences of all sizes. β€œI adore playing β€˜live’. As my music fills the room, the audience fills my heart.”

Lyrics

Some day, when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

Yes, you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you
And the way you look tonight

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearin' my fear apart
And that laugh..wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart

Lovely ... Never, never change
Keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight

[instrumental]

And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
It touches my foolish heart

Lovely ... Don't you ever change
Keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you
a-just the way you look tonight

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm,
Just the way you look tonight
